Local veteran gets housing help

SOUTH EUCLID, OH – A veteran of the Iraq war, Demond Taylor and his wife Amber will soon move into a renovated South Euclid home.

Taylor served in the Army for four years and suffers from post traumatic stress disorder.  Taylor will benefit from the extraordinary work being done by the national organization Purple Heart Homes. Purple Heart works with local developers, politicians, banks and contractors to buy homes, renovate them and sell them to disabled vets at a fraction of the actual cost.

“For them to find me, at this time of my life it’s pretty important. It’s a God send,” said Taylor, who becomes the first to benefit from the program in Ohio.

Purple Heart Homes was founded by two Iraq combat wounded veterans who saw too many of their fellow veterans suffering from their injuries and the financial problems that many veterans face.

Taylor says he will be forever grateful and feels more than a little humbled to have been picked for the program.

“I just know there are so many of my brothers out there, soldiers,  they need help, too. I don’t know.”

It will cost $60,000 to $70,000 dollars to renovate the home in South Euclid.  Purple Heart Homes is working to find donors, and volunteer labor to help keep the eventual cost to Demond Taylor and his family as low as possible.
