Creating New Green Spaces

The Western Reserve Land ConservancyCleveland Tree Coalition member organizations, and community partners hosted an Arbor Day Block Party in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood on April 27. The celebratory event was designed to showcase how to best plant and care for trees in communities across Cleveland – from public lands to private yards. More than 75 volunteers gathered at Fullerton School for the tree planting event. After opening remarks, volunteers planted 43 trees between the school property and four vacant lots, one of which is in the Cuyahoga Land Bank’s inventory.

“The Land Conservancy is proud to work with communities to help create new green spaces in urban areas, transforming neighborhoods into a safer, more attractive, and more vibrant places,” says Isaac Robb, Manager of Urban Projects for Western Reserve Land Conservancy.

“The Land Conservancy works very closely with the Cuyahoga Land Bank,” says Robb. That work includes sharing parcel-level data through our property inventories, the demolition and rehabilitation of homes in neighborhoods and communities where we work, and the greening of vacant land through side yard expansions, community green space creation, as well as tree plantings on vacant land.”
