Demolition Makes Way for Land Reuse Success

It’s always difficult when a well-known neighborhood building is demolished, but it can also be advantageous if the land can be put back into productive use that is beneficial to the community. Such is the case of the former YWCA building on Smith Road in Middleburg Heights. The Cuyahoga Land Bank demolished the dilapidated structure in the Fall of 2019 to prepare for the development of a supportive housing project.

Medina Creative Housing (MCH), a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the development and ongoing management of permanent, affordable housing and quality services for persons with disabilities, is putting the final touches on its recently opened facility.

Stay tuned for “after” photos of this project. In the meantime, you can view some of our demolition photos below. Be sure to check out the intricate glass block wall backdrop to the former swimming pool!
